Some people call me an OG of wedding business marketing, but deep down I'm just another person wearing PJ bottoms on Zoom. I swear a lot, I share my struggles, and I don't pretend to be better than anyone else.
In case you haven’t heard, Periscope is a new social network that lets you to broadcast live videos interact with people in real-time. That makes it very impromptu and casual which is a lot of fun. What most people struggle with is thinking of what to scope about. I’ve got 10 ideas to help you get started and lots of examples to go along with them!
Everyone likes to see behind the scenes so give people a peek! Most people have no idea what creating a beautiful wedding cake looks like or what a caterer has to do prior to the wedding so share it with them! Pull the curtain back and give them a peek.
If you sell products like wedding dresses, accessories or anything else really, you can showcase your new products on Periscope. Take people on a tour through the new dresses that just arrived in your bridal shop or showcase the new bridal accessories you’ve created. Remember though that it’s about sharing and having a conversation so you’re not selling.
Periscope is a great place to show people how to do something. If you’re a makeup artist you could demonstrate how to prep and take care of your skin in the run up to your wedding day. If you’re a florist, you could show people how to keep their flowers looking fresh throughout their wedding day. If you have a DIY income stream in your business, you could give people a little taste of what you teach.
This is the type of broadcast that I LOVE doing and you have helpful information to share as well. If you’re a wedding planner you could share 3 things to do as soon as you get engaged or 4 things to consider when looking for a wedding planner. If you’re a photographer you could share some helpful tips on how to look your best in your wedding photos. The point here is that you are the pro and you’re an expert so you know things that your potential clients don’t. Share those things with them and you’ll position yourself as an expert in your field!
You’ll see these on Periscope and they’re usually called “Ask me anything about <insert topic>”. If you give people a topic, they’re more likely to have specific questions. If you’re a florist you could do “Ask me anything about choosing your wedding flowers”. These sessions give you an opportunity to provide value and demonstrate your expertise. You could even make them more focused on your local area like “Ask me anything about getting married in Charlotte, North Carolina”.
Every business owner has those things that they wish their clients understood about what they do. Photographers often wish their clients understood the work that goes into it beyond “just taking pictures”. Planners often wish their clients understood the crazy amount of work that goes into planning and managing their weddings. You can use Periscope to show this to them. Show them what editing photos is like and the depth you do into on each individual image. Show them the steps you take as a planner to make sure everything is taken care of for your clients. Show them the terrifying process of moving a wedding cake from your bakery to the venue.
Periscope is fun so have some fun with it and bring some of your personality and interests into your brand. I scope about wedding business & marketing tips but you better believe if I was at Comic Con in San Diego last weekend, I’d be sharing that and geeking out about it. A big part of your brand is you so let people get to know you and like you!
What are you working on today? Are you sketching out a cake design for a client? Are you meeting a client for a venue walkthrough? Start a Periscope broadcast and take us along for the ride with you!
If your couples will give you their permission you could live stream their wedding ceremony, the fun party side of the reception or anything in between. You could live stream from other events too like a wedding fair or a bridal fashion event.
I watched an interview on Periscope that someone did with Bill Nye (yes, the science guy) at a conference and it was really interesting. You can interview someone in person (maybe one of your fellow vendors you want to highlight) or you can use Skype on your computer to conduct a video interview and capture it on Periscope.
