Some people call me an OG of wedding business marketing, but deep down I'm just another person wearing PJ bottoms on Zoom. I swear a lot, I share my struggles, and I don't pretend to be better than anyone else.

What sets you apart from your competitors? Why do people decide to do business with you over someone else? There are likely many reasons but I really want you to stop and think about this because it’s important to your business. Newsflash: the answer does not contain the words “quality” or “good service”. Those are not special, they are expected.
I learned something recently while reading a book called Start With Why: People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it. One of the fantastic examples the book provided was Apple. Apple has built a cult-like following as they create products across different industries. Their customers stay with them because of why they do what they do. Anyone can build a computer and lots of companies just build computers. Unlike other computer companies, Apple represents an idea. They constantly question the status quo and offer simpler solutions in the form of their products. Because of this, it doesn’t matter what they decide to create, their people will follow them because they love Apple’s approach. It’s brilliant.

How can you demonstrate why you do what you do? This is something I am working on myself so I can’t answer that for you. That being said, I couldn’t answer it for you anyway, it has to come from within. What sets you apart is in you. Why did you get into this and what is your mission? I mean really-what do you want to achieve?
For me, I want to simplify what has traditionally been overcomplicated and I want to show business owners like you that there is a better way. It doesn’t have to be complicated and you don’t have to bust your ass 24/7 to create a successful business. As my high school geometry teacher said, “Use the KISS method. Keep It Simple Stupid”.
This is a big concept and it’s probably not going to come to you immediately but just start thinking about it. Why do you do this and why do people choose you?
