Some people call me an OG of wedding business marketing, but deep down I'm just another person wearing PJ bottoms on Zoom. I swear a lot, I share my struggles, and I don't pretend to be better than anyone else.
I have secret I want to share with you that most people don’t know and it goes against everything you ever learned working as an employee. You ready for this?
We’re taught that if you just work harder, you’ll succeed but that’s not really true. Sure, you have to work hard but you also have to work smart. You can work as hard as you want at digging a ditch with a teaspoon but it isn’t going to get you further than working smart and using a shovel or a backhoe. Doing more of something that is already exhausting and not working well isn’t going to yield different results.
Most wedding businesses function on a business model where the owner exchanges their time for money. That makes sense, until you realize that if something were to happen to you and you were unable to work, you’d be royally screwed. You won’t get paid unless you’re actively putting in the hours with this business model and that is its fatal flaw.
It’s inherently financially insecure and that’s scary.
Even if you never have any health issues that prevent you from working, you will reach a cap because when you exchange time for money, you’re going to run out of time. You are limited by the number of hours you can sell. It’s not like you can get more time, unless you start building a team to take on some of the work for you.
Working this way is exhausting and it can make you feel like you’re a slave to your business. The good news is this is not your only option.
If you want to build a business that supports you and your lifestyle instead of just building a more demanding job for yourself, you have to build in multiple streams of income. That means that you give people other ways to pay you than just by selling your time.
I know what you’re thinking, “That’s great Heidi but how do I do that?”. Well my friend, that’s why I created Wedding Business Profits – How To Make More Money In Your Wedding Business Without Working More Hours.
Most wedding professionals work a LOT of hours and it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s no wonder so many wedding pros are so damn busy all the time! Your business can support whatever lifestyle you want. Are you living the lifestyle you want?
