Some people call me an OG of wedding business marketing, but deep down I'm just another person wearing PJ bottoms on Zoom. I swear a lot, I share my struggles, and I don't pretend to be better than anyone else.

Heidi Thompson:
You’re doing all the things you’re supposed to, but you’re still not booking more weddings. Let’s talk about it. In a world where wedding professionals are struggling to market and grow their businesses, one podcast brings together top experts and actionable strategies to help you build the wedding business of your dreams. This is the Evolve Your Wedding Business podcast.
Hello there, my friend. Welcome to the podcast. I’m your host, Heidi Thompson, and I’m all about helping wedding professionals make their marketing easier so they can book more weddings with the clients they really love while building a business that gives them the life, freedom and flexibility they deserve. I firmly believe and have seen firsthand that you don’t have to choose between having a thriving business and having a life outside of work. And today I want to talk to you about something that might make you a little uncomfortable, because I’m going to tell you the real reason you’re not booking more weddings.
And it’s probably not what you think. So many wedding pros come to me frustrated, understandably, asking why? Why am I not booking more weddings? I am putting myself out there. I am doing everything. Why is it not working? And they tell me that they’ve tried posting on Instagram constantly, trying reels, maybe even the dancing and pointing ones, being consistent with their content, showing up on stories every day, doing more of it when it doesn’t work. And when I ask, do you have a marketing strategy, a plan for how this all connects to actually book your ideal clients? I usually get some version of, I don’t really need a plan. I just need to figure out Instagram reels, or I just need to post more consistently. Here’s what I need you to hear today. You don’t have a marketing problem. You have a strategy problem. And I know that might sting a little because you are marketing, you’re posting, you’re showing up, you’re trying.
But hoping that if you just post enough, something will stick is not a strategy. That’s a prayer. Let me give you a picture of what this looks like Let take it outside the wedding industry Imagine you trying to catch fish just by throwing your line in the water over and over in random spots hoping something bites. You’re not using the right bait. You’re not fishing where the fish actually are. You don’t even really know what kind of fish you’re just trying to catch. You’re just hoping for anything. So you keep casting and casting and casting. Your arm’s getting sore. And when you don’t catch anything, you think, well, I must not be casting enough.
I need cast more. So you cast faster. You add more fishing rods. You try different spots, but still at random. You’re exhausted. Your arms hurt and you still haven’t caught anything. But the fishermen next to you, they have caught three fish while you’ve frantically been working. What’s the difference here? Well, they know exactly what fish they’re trying to catch. They know where those fish hang out. And they’re using the right bait for those fish. You’re working harder. They’re working smarter. And this is exactly what happens with your marketing. You’re posting these beautiful photos, behind the scenes content, reels you spent way too long creating. You’re putting in the effort, you’re showing up, but the inquiries aren’t coming. Or they’re coming from the wrong people, the budget shoppers, the price shoppers, the people who inquire and then ghost you. Maybe you’re catching some fish here and there, but they’re not the fish you actually want.
so you think the answer is more, more platforms, more content, more hours. You see other people posting all the time and assume that’s why they’re booking, so you copy them. But when it doesn’t work for you, instead of thinking, maybe this approach isn’t right for my business, you think, I must not be doing it right. I need to do more. And now you’re spending 5, 10, maybe even 15 hours a week on marketing, exhausted, frustrated, and starting to wonder if maybe you’re not cut out for this. I know what’s really going on here. It’s not that you don’t think strategy matters.
It’s that you’re scared. You’re scared that even with a plan, even with a strategy, you still won’t be able to book enough weddings. You’re scared that maybe your problem isn’t your marketing. Maybe it’s you. Maybe your work isn’t good enough. Maybe your ideal clients don exist Maybe you charging too much and they never pay it So it feels safer just to keep posting to keep casting that line because at least then you can tell yourself you’re trying.
At least then you can blame the algorithm or the economy or wedding trends when it doesn’t work. But deep down, you know something needs to change.
here is what I’ve seen after working with thousands of wedding pros the ones who are consistently booking their ideal clients aren’t posting more they aren’t on every platform and they aren’t working more hours they have a clear strategy that positions them as the best choice for their ideal client. There’s only one thing your marketing actually needs to do.
Position you as the obvious choice for your ideal client. That’s it. That’s the entire goal. But you can’t do that when you are frantically casting everywhere hoping something works. Now think about that fisherman again, the one that caught three fish while you’ve been exhausted and frustrated. They’re not working harder than you. They’re probably a lot more relaxed than you. But they’re catching fish because they know what they’re doing.
They’re not hoping. They’re not guessing. They have a strategy. So here’s what I want you to consider. What if the reason you’re not booking more weddings isn’t because you’re not doing enough, but because you’re spending just way too much time on the wrong things?
What if you could actually spend less time on marketing and get better results? I see it happen all the time. What if there’s a way to position yourself as the obvious choice for your ideal client without posting every single day, without dancing on TikTok, without sacrificing every single evening to create content?
What if you could actually have a business that gives you the life and freedom you wanted when you started this whole thing? That is exactly what’s possible when you stop guessing and you start being strategic. I see this transformation constantly in the Wedding Business Collective.
People come in exhausted, spending 10 hours or more a week on marketing that is not working. And within weeks they getting strategic knowing exactly who their ideal client is what they care about where they looking and how to position themselves They cut their marketing time in half and start booking more weddings they actually want. Not because they’re working harder, because they’re working smarter. And that’s a key idea behind the Wedding Business CEO Summit. I was tired of watching talented wedding pros exhaust themselves on marketing that wasn’t working. I wanted to show you there’s a different way. So from February 16th through the 20th, I’m bringing together 40 experts who understand what it’s like to be trapped in this cycle.
