Some people call me an OG of wedding business marketing, but deep down I'm just another person wearing PJ bottoms on Zoom. I swear a lot, I share my struggles, and I don't pretend to be better than anyone else.
So many frustrated wedding professionals come to me with the same question time and time again: “Why am I not booking more weddings? I’m getting myself out there, but it’s just not working.”
I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard this exact same question in the past 12 years of doing this work. So there’s something I want you to know about marketing because I feel like marketing is this kind of weird mystery to a lot of people.
There’s only one thing that your marketing needs to do for you to book more weddings.
It needs to position you as the best choice for your potential client. And that’s actually what creating the right marketing plan for your business does while saving you a ton of time and overwhelm.
Want to know how to do that? Listen to this episode to find out!
Hello there, my friend. I am your host, Heidi Thompson, and I am here to help you build a wedding business that gives you the life and the freedom you want.
And today we’re going to be talking about a question that so many frustrated wedding pros come to me with. It’s the same question time and time again.
“Why am I not booking more weddings? I’m getting myself out there, but it’s just not working.”
I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard this exact same question in the past 12 years of doing this work. So there’s something I want you to know about marketing because I feel like marketing is this kind of weird black box to a lot of people.
There’s only one thing that your marketing needs to do in order for you to book more weddings.
It needs to position you as the best choice for your potential client. And that’s actually what creating the right marketing plan for your business does.
So let’s talk about what you’re already doing. Maybe what you’ve already tried.
You’ve probably tried creating Instagram reels to get in front of more couples. Maybe even took a course on those.
Maybe you’ve tried creating weekly blog posts.
Maybe you’ve tried advertising on The Knot or WeddingWire.
Maybe you’ve tried spending two hours a day pinning weddings to get found on Pinterest and get more eyes on your business.
There’s one reason and one reason only why that hasn’t worked. And it’s that it doesn’t position you as the best choice for your potential client. It just gets eyes on you.
So you might think. “Heidi, I don’t need a marketing plan. I don’t need to spend more time on marketing. I already don’t have enough time. That’s my problem.”
And you probably don’t realize just how much time you’re wasting on the random marketing tactics that most wedding pros think that they need to do.
Members of The Wedding Business Collective, which is my membership, regularly find, especially when they first join, that they are spending anywhere from 5 to 10 hours per week on random acts of marketing, as I call them, randomly doing things to try to get yourself out there.
And you can easily get that down to 2 hours a week and save yourself time when you have the right marketing plan. You can very easily get that down and get back, you know, 80% of that time.
You might think, “I don’t want to create a marketing plan and I totally get that I’m already overwhelmed. I already dread marketing my business.” And I totally get it.
I know that you have a lot on your plate and I am not here to put more on it. My goal is actually to take things off your plate so that your marketing is easier and that you feel less overwhelmed.
And a marketing plan will make your marketing easier and it will make you feel less overwhelmed because you don’t have to wonder, you don’t have to panic about what you’re supposed to do to bring in clients. I think we discount how much that uncertainty sends us spiraling into anxiety and just doing random things and trying to work really hard as the solution when that’s not actually what needs to happen.
What a marketing plan does is it gives you clear steps to follow that are created with your very specific ideal client in mind, so that it results in more bookings with less time spent on marketing.
So if you want to feel less overwhelmed, and I know you do because nobody likes feeling overwhelmed, stop that panic, stop that frantic scattershot marketing, because that’s the thing that leads to you feeling overwhelmed.
You may think, “Heidi, I don’t need a marketing plan. I’m already posting on social media. That’s marketing, right?”
Well, when your marketing isn’t designed to strategically position you as the best choice for your potential client, it falls flat. It really doesn’t matter how much of it you do.
It won’t count toward anything meaningful. It’s kind of like if you were, you know, running five miles a day, but you were eating nothing but fast food. The benefits of all that running get completely wiped out.
And posting randomly on social media isn’t a strategy. It doesn’t take your ideal client into account and consider what they need to hear in order to see you as the best choice for them above all of your other competition.
The good news is when you spend a little bit of time on being strategic and intentional about your marketing, you wind up spending way less time on your marketing. You don’t have to dread it.
And it takes less of your time, it doesn’t require daily Instagram reels and weekly blog posts and spending a bunch on advertising and spending two hours a day pinning weddings.
You don’t actually have to do that much in order to successfully accomplish that goal of positioning yourself and your business as the best choice for your potential client. It can actually be done in as little as two hours a week.
Now, I get two hours may sound like a lot, but like I said, when many people first join The Wedding Business Collective, they find they’re just, they’re spending just like insane amounts of time, 5 to 10 hours on random marketing each week.
We can cut that down by up to 80% and give you your time back so that you actually have more time to do the things that you love. Right now you’re spending more time on the things that get you less results and we need to flip that around.
Now during the Book More Weddings Summit happening August 19th through the 23rd, you’re going to see a bunch of different ways that you can do this, but it doesn’t mean you have to do them all.
I want you to come get your free ticket. Come join us, take what you want, and leave the rest just like a buffet. You can get your free ticket to Book More Wedding Summit over at www.bookmoreweddingssummit.com.
